So what is Bynum Bridge Fest.......
Bynum Bridge Fest is a one day Art Market Saturday April 20th from 10-5 hosted by be PhilARThropy and held on the pedestrian bridge overlooking the Haw River in Bynum NC. Applauded for the diversity and affordability of work, a great atmosphere and a beautiful venue full of friendly people, the Bynum Bridge Fest continues to grow each year. Located between Pittsboro and Chapel Hill, just off HWY 15-501, each year the festival has three key themes:
Support the Local Arts Support a Local Charity Support Arts in Education
Last year, the Bynum Bridge Fest was the largest art festival in Chatham county and were able to raise over $3,000 to support the Friends of the Lower Haw State Natural Area! From our humble beginning in 2016, we grew by over 100%. The range of art work from local artists is incredible and there is truly something for every person and every taste. In this our fourth year, we have over 4o artists participating and the festival will feature diverse works including:
-
Folk Art
-
Jewelry
-
Metal Sculpture
-
Photography
-
Pottery
-
Textiles
-
Wood working
-
and many more
Since 2016, through the generous support of our artists and patrons, the Bynum Bridge Fest has raised funds to:
-
Provide over $750 in academic art awards to local students and art programs
-
Plant over 1,200 trees through the Arbor Day Foundation
-
Improve the wildlife habitat of the lower Haw River with the installation of multiple bird nesting boxes
-
Promote conservation and wildlife education through the install of wildlife viewing cameras in the Lower Haw River State Natural Area
In 2019, be PhilARThropy will once again donate proceeds of the festival and patron donations to the Friends of the Lower Haw River to continue the great work we began in 2018. A local chapter under the Friends of the State Parks, Friends of the Lower Haw River is an organization committed to conserving and enhancing the Lower Hare River region for current enjoyment while creating a legacy for future generations.
Each year, be PhilARThropy focuses on supporting local artists by providing the Bynum Bridge Fest as an outlet to feature their work, but we also believe that support for arts begins with art education and includes contributions to society through the arts – ART GIVING BACK. Yet while we aim to "give back" through organizations such as Friends of the Lower Haw, without the support of the local community Bynum Bridge Fest would not be possible. Each festival, we rely on volunteers to organize the show, and local businesses to sponsor the event. This year, we are fortunate to have the support of the following local businesses:
Through our mission to promote Arts in Education, the Bynum Bridge Fest will once again able to present an Academic Art Exhibition in 2019 due to the continuing support from Jerry's Artarama. Building on the success of the High School Student Art Showcases from 2017 and 2018, this year the festival will once again feature an Academic Art Exhibition. Open to both students and teachers, both student awards and one art grant for an academic institution will be presented at the festival.
So come to support local artists.....support Friends of the Lower Haw....support arts in education. Spend a day overlooking the Haw River and browsing the work of local artists. This year there are more reasons than ever to come to the Bynum Bridge Fest and enjoy an afternoon of food, fun and fantastic art on the Haw River.
